Giving Hearts with Love Foundation’s first mission trip to Haiti after Hurricane Matthew was a success. We were determined to reach areas that are not easily accessible by car so that we could deliver aid to those who do not usually get assistance due to their location.
Every morning we got up at 5am and traveled 4 hours to an area called Kay Obin. Once there we had to take a 15-20 minute hike to get to the residents of Kay Obin and the surrounding communities. We distributed spaghetti, rice, oil, beans, grits, water and various hygiene products like toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant. The time spent talking with the residents and playing with the children was the best of all though.
We have been working in Haiti even prior to the hurricane, but every trip feels like the first. Although they have little, the people are so positive and strong. We go there to give them aid, but really and truly their perseverance has sent us home many times with memories and lessons that we could not get anywhere else.
